Description
BA BF FG Falcon 4L Barra Phenolic Spacer. Fits all 4L Barra engines, BBM, NA or Turbo intake manifold.
This phenolic spacer is used in place of your intake manifold gasket to reduce intake temperatures by introducing a thermally isolating barrier between the cylinder head and intake manifold. This allows the intake to remain cool when the engine is hot, improving heat soak.
This product has been tested to show a 40deg reduction in intake temperatures on a hot day. Made from 8.3mm thick phenolic laminate.
Here’s what Tony had to say:
Over a decade ago, every possible avenue of giving the four litre another percent or two of performance was important. And, of course, so was keeping the engine build to a super tight budget.
Everyone knows internal combustion engines run better with cool air. The reason for this… COOL AIR is denser. Which means our four litre engines act more like a larger engine, but with the same stroke and bore so go through the rev range the same. Just a bit quicker.
Denser air is something the Ford picks up, and because there are more air molecules, it throws an extra squirt of petrol into each cylinder… Where it goes BANG much more strongly than if you fed it hot air.
On a 32 degree afternoon a few hundred metres above sea level with no wind to speak of, my original install reached almost EIGHTY DEGREES CELSIUS at the centre of throttle blade. That’s right folks, all the air coming in to the engine when you’re giving it some jandal is going through a bunch of alloy (heat soak) and even at thirty degrees it is not keeping the manifold cool.
With the original design of this Phenolic Spacer in place, we hit the same New Zealand back road after a short motorway hop. Getting to the top of the hill we measured the throttle temp and thought our machine must be broken. It was 37 degrees. Which was only five above ambient now.
What is going on here? Could this really be a thing?
Surely not? But, it appears so.
No test has ever gone over forty degrees… So we got bored and called it good, after a few more weeks of testing.
Designed and made by people who literally take every nut and bolt off their old Ford every couple of years and rebuild…
